DIY Solar Panel – Solar Water Heating Installation – Part 5.
Solar Collector Chassis Connections
Pipe Connections To The Collector Chassis
Measure from the bolts to the end of the 22mm pipes, (click on drawing above), transfer inside the roof and check the area is clear
Use the 22mm pipe and coupler to extend the collector if required to reach a clear area inside the roof
Fit the elbow to the end of the collector with the sensor hole and loose fit the tee to the other end
Note, the sensor end is the hot end or the collector
Mark the tiles for the pipes, remove the fittings and drill through with the 20mm diamond core drill
Pass the two 15mm pipe through, re-fit the elbow and tee, engage the pipes and tighten
Remove the cap from the stop end
Fitting Sensor Into Collector Chassis
Check the internal clearance and drill through the tiles with the 10mm core drill
Insert the sensor into the hole in the collector under the 22mm pipe
Sealing
Use the High Temperature Silicon Sealant to seal the pipes, bolts and sensor cable
Seal the sensor into its hole to prevent it from becoming dislodged
